If you know me then you know that I am one with nature, not passing any opportunity to bask in the great outdoors of God’s creation. Yeah right. But the softer side of Beav came out yesterday as I saved a bird’s life from certain death.
When we returned from a family outing yesterday there was a little bird in our little indoor patio area. It was chirping like crazy and kept bumping into the clear sliding glass door. I thought the bird might be hurt or something, but also thought maybe it was just stuck in our patio. So I moved it with a puzzle box to our front stairwell. I thought that might have done it, but then the little bird just stayed on our door mat for 3 hours chirping. If I knew “bird” language I would be able to confirm that he was calling me “daddy.”
I began an internet search on stuff related to topics like “wounded birds”, “stray birds”, “birds on my doormat.” I did find some great stuff like how to perform first aid on birds and other things, but decided to call the vet. The vet then transferred me to a lady named Terry who walked me through a bunch of pics. She had me take pictures of the bird and send it to her. We determined it was a baby mockingbird.
Terry doesn’t deal with Mockingbirds though so she passed me to some other lady named Vicki who does Mockingbirds. This was 3 hours later after finding the bird and when I went to the door to move the bird into a dense bush (seriously) with Vicki on the phone, the bird was gone. Vicki asked me if we had a cat or if there were cats in our complex. There aren’t any.
So, it turns out that it was a fledgling mockingbird who was calling it’s parents. Apparently the parents came and got him and took him back to their nest. It’s really a heart-warming story when you think about. The bird was lost, and now he’s found. Very Biblical.
As for me, I may start voting Green here on out because I’m recognizing my affinity with nature and all things wild.
