Congrats to the Phillies.
I was pulling for them after the debacle that was the Cubs. I was pulling for Chase Utley as a fellow LB Poly and UCLA alum. So that means he’s a double winner in my book. Having played against him in Alumni games and having met him as a result of him being friends with my little sis is an added bonus.
The World Series was odd for sure this year, but the Phillies have had a rough go of it just like the Cubs over the last 125 years or so, with the exception being 1980 and this year. I’m not sure I could have taken another recent expansion team winning the World Series before the Cubs.
The only thing that made me nauseous was all the talk in the post game about how they’ve put an end to their horrible championship drought. Please – 28 years compared to 100 years? They were even in the world series in ’93 too on top of it.
Watching the clips of the celebration in Philly was enlightening and gave me a thought. Maybe God won’t let the Cubs win, not because of a curse, but because too many people would die in the aftermath of a championship in the celebration. People would die – many. At least they would have gotten to see their dream come true first.
