On the way to church we had a classic conversation. We had the usual battles about hair, getting dressed up, going to Sunday School. I asked her what she thought God appreciated more – us getting all dressed up and looking good or having good attitudes. She answered, “Good Attitudes.” I thought we were on a good track.

I then told her that we needed her to have a good attitude about Church and that she really needed to listen and obey and cooperate with a good attitude. She then said, “Well God still loves me even when I don’t listen and obey. I can not listen and obey and he’ll still love me.”

Who would have thought the “cheap grace” conversations would have started already a week shy of her 4 year birthday? We’ll keep working on the whole concept of repentance in the context of grace
