It’s April Fool’s.
I’ve never cared one way or the other before. I’ve never pulled an April Fool’s joke on anyone. I’ve been indifferent. I remember a couple years ago Jim Rome spending the entire 4 hours of his radio show talking about how lame April Fool’s day was and now I finally agree.
The first couple of gags of the day I remember smiling briefly. I think what’s different this year is facebook, twitter, and all the blogs I track. About 50 “april fools!” later I’m maxed out. Then my wife rolls in tonight after her night out with the girls and says, “Beav, I’m really sorry – but I backed into a pole and there’s a huge dent in the car.” She lets me sit in it for a sec and then gives me the “April Fools!” I had to lay down and recover.
I track a few podcasts which I usually listen to a day or two after they come out so I’m preparing myself for the next wave of “April Fools” jokes.
I hate to be a downer, but April Fools in small doses use to be fine by me..now with ever increasing connectivity via the web and social networking sites I think I’m over it. I might have to abstain from internet use on April 1st in the future, but I won’t be able to avoid it completely because my wife is really into it and can’t help but try to screw with me – every year…and she’s training our daughter to carry on the tradtion. It’s actually good for me, but past a certain level it triggers stress behavior.
