I’m back to some forced reading pertaining to preaching – though I am not a preacher nor will be one unless the universe turns on its head. I know where my gifts lie – and it ain’t in preaching.
But that being said, The Art of Preaching Old Testament Narrative by Steven Mathewson was pretty good I thought – in part because it included so much on studying and doing the work of exegesis with narrative texts that it really serves multiple purposes. It does a good job with its preaching preparation content, but I really found a lot of value in its narrative exegesis material. I would say this is a great book for my pastor friends to check out at some point if they’re wanting to refine their OT preaching skills or expand their comfort zone. It’s a very helpful Old Testament narrative resource.
Reminder: The 2009 Blogference starts up on Monday – Check back here then for my first day’s topic.
