Big Day of K

by Beav on September 7, 2010

Thanks again to Eunice Lee for her guest post a few days ago.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, please do so and share in the discussion.Today was a special day because our oldest child and daughter Morgan started Kindergarten today.  We’ve had so many special moments in the last day or so and wanted to share a couple.Colin actually has provided several unbelievably tender moments.  We were with my parents and prayed for Morgan going to school.  My dad prayed for Morgan and we were done, but Colin jumped in and said, “I do it too.”   He then put his arm around Morgan’s waist and put his head into her and shared a little prayer.  All I could understand was, “Jesus..God…Morgan…Mama…School…”  And then he gave her a big hug at the end.  Too precious. This morning when Morgan was leaving Colin was in his diaper and he went and put his shoes on and got his own backpack and tried to follow Morgan into the car to go to.  It was a major buzzkill for him when he realized he couldn’t go.  I was with him in the morning for a couple hours and at one point I caught him after he found a bag of Oreo’s and he was sitting on the ground with his back to the wall eating Oreo’s and just being grumpy. At dinner tonight we were praying for dinner and Colin wanted to pray for dinner and offered another prayer which was just as sweet as the first.  He thanked Jesus that Morgan got to go to Kindergarten.  I deciphered, “Jesus..God…school…kingdergarden…and I can’t go….Amen.”  I asked him if he was sad he couldn’t go and he hit me in the shoulder and wouldn’t talk about it.  How very man of him.Morgan was so into it and she’s been talking about it all day saying how she can’t wait until she can go back tomorrow.  It’s fun to see.People have asked how we’re doing.  I’m more composed than I would have thought, but it’s a moment for us that is probably more significant for us than a lot of parents even experience (which is still really significant!).  In addition to all the normal parenting stuff, we’re processing the preemie experience again a bit and Morgan’s averaged 2 or so medical or physical therapy appointments per week in the past 3 1/2 years which doesn’t even cover all the hours my wife and spent on the phone with offices and doing paperwork and doing a host of other things.  For my wife especially it’s been a heck of an effort to get Morgan to this point and it’s a great feeling (though all that work is not over by a long shot).  Emotional day for mom for sure! It’s a new season for sure, but we’re excited for her and now we can turn our attention to helping Colin regroup and getting things ready for #3 (2 mos & counting!).

Here’s our kindergartner!

What a fun week! Jack, too, is loving kindergarten, and talks about his new friend Morgan! Typical boy – Grandma – "What was your favorite part of school today?" Jack – "Recess" Hard to believe how fast they are growing up.

Fun to hear from you Conni! It was fun to hear Jack was in Morgan's class. She's really enjoying it.
